Lived Experience Research Group

August 18 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am

A hybrid research discussion led by Dia (ACT MHCN) to explore lived experience in mental health through research and practical application

As commissioning continues to evolve, organisations are increasingly expected to demonstrate how lived experience informs service design, delivery, evaluation and continuous improvement. Meaningful engagement with people who have lived experience is no longer simply best practice—it is a critical component of person-centred, responsive and effective mental health services.

“Centering Lived Experience in Service Design, Delivery and Evaluation” is a facilitated hybrid research discussion led by Dia, Policy and Participation Coordinator at the ACT Mental Health Consumer Network (ACT MHCN).

Taking place on Tuesday 18 August from 10:00–11:30am, this collaborative, research-informed session will explore the role of lived experience in shaping contemporary mental health services and the increasing relevance of lived experience leadership within commissioning environments.

Through reflection, discussion and the exploration of current research, participants will consider how lived experience can meaningfully contribute to service planning, program design, delivery, evaluation and decision-making. The session will also examine the practical challenges and opportunities organisations face when seeking to move from consultation towards genuine partnership and co-design.

As the first in a three-part series, this session provides an opportunity for participants to strengthen their understanding of lived experience practice while exploring approaches that support quality, outcomes-focused and person-centred services. Participants will leave with practical insights that can help strengthen organisational capability and demonstrate meaningful lived experience engagement in increasingly co-design focused commissioning contexts.

This session is ideal for service providers, practitioners, managers, policy professionals and anyone interested in building more responsive mental health services informed by the expertise and insights of people with lived experience.
