Media release

Mental Health Community Coalition (MHCC) ACT are pleased to announce that the ACT Recovery College has been awarded the Service and Program Award for the Psychosocial and/or Support Category at The Mental Health Services Conference (TheMHS) this year.

The ACT Recovery College received an award from TheMHS in the Service and Program Award for the Psychosocial and/or Support category. This category is for those services or programs which support a person to move towards one or more of his/her stated life goals – looking beyond the diagnosis of a mental illness to autonomy on a wider “stage”.

MHCC ACT CEO Bec Cody said, “We are enormously proud of the achievements of the ACT Recovery college, and the positive impact they have had on the Canberra community. Receiving this award reflects the importance of a program like this, and is something we will continue to advocate for in the ACT.”

ACT Recovery College Manager Dianna Smith said, “I believe that the success of the trial showed that a Recovery College can make a substantial impact on the lives of people of Canberra.”

“It is a valuable service that is sadly missed especially now with all the uncertainty of lockdowns and changes to how we live and connect with our community due to COVID.”

“To see and hear how we made an impact in people’s lives made all the hard work we did during the trial worthwhile”
