Media release

The Mental Health Community Coalition of the ACT (MHCC ACT) is delighted to announce the appointment of Lisa Kelly as its new Chief Executive Officer. Lisa brings with her a wealth of experience in mental health and community work, having previously held leadership roles at Lifeline Canberra, headspace and, most recently, as CEO of Carers ACT.

Lisa’s appointment comes at a pivotal time for MHCC ACT, as the organisation embarks on a period of renewal and growth. Her leadership will be instrumental in driving forward MHCC ACT’s vision of accessible, community-managed mental health care for all Canberrans.

“Lisa’s proven track record in leadership, advocacy, and organisational growth aligns perfectly with our mission. We’re excited to see how her vision and passion will shape MHCC ACT’s future,” MHCC ACT Chair Dr Yvonne Luxford said.

As the peak body for Canberra’s community-managed mental health sector, MHCC ACT is dedicated to supporting services like domestic violence shelters, support programs targeting a range of cultures, suicide prevention services, and more. With half of all Canberrans experiencing a mental health challenge in their lifetimes, the Coalition’s work has never been more crucial.

“I am deeply honoured to join MHCC ACT as CEO and to return to the mental health sector. Our community deserves compassionate, person-centred care, especially as we face increasing challenges around mental health and social isolation,” Ms Kelly said.

“I’m committed to strengthening partnerships, amplifying the voices of those with lived and living experience, and ensuring mental health care is accessible and inclusive.”

Lisa will commence her new position in April 2025.
